Veganism and fashion are two topics that are rarely paired
together. However, I have found a line that does just that. Vaute Couture is a new line, launching this fall 2009, that focuses on creating high fashion
clothing that uses animal friendly and eco-conscious materials. Established by Leanne Hilgart,
who was recently named top 20 under 30 by VegNews Magazine, has
completely self-funded her venture.
I asked Leanne what her biggest challenges were in launching this line. Her response: “More than just starting a fashion label, I approach this venture as an inventor, not as much as a designer, focusing on fabric research as an essential to the line. It took 8 months alone to discover the right fabrics to work with -- this was a challenge most designers don't have.”
After reading deeper into the development of these materials I found that, indeed, these are some complicated fabrics: textured Polartec and Zero Waste Satin Ripstop just to name a few.
Here are a couple outerwear pieces for this fall season. I love the colors and the structure to each piece. I would love to hear what you think.
